Have Game, Will Play: Legend of Dungeon
Legend of Dungeon is a retro pixel art rogue like that features randomized dungeons. Not only are the environments dynamic but the music is as well. The difficulty is not as flexible though with the inclusion of permadeath (permanent death) but you can play with up to 4 others cooperatively. Rumor has that there is treasure on the 26th floor. All you need to do is get it and make it out alive. Easier said than done.
Legend of Dungeon is fun solo but I’d imagine that playing with others is what the developers intended. The controls are fairly simple. I used a wired 360 controller and found it to work quite well. You have two basic functions: use item/weapon and a jump button. The various foods, magic items and weapons can be selected without the need of a menu. The shoulder buttons allow you to pick through your inventory. Since you pick items in real-time, I cannot recommend inventory management enough. I learned the hard way when I picked an apple instead of my sword.
Due to the random nature of the dungeons it is imperative that you pay attention to the small details that the developer placed to indicate where you were and where you’ve been. The light of the doorways serve as those hints. Of course, I still got lost while finding secret passages but that’s part of the challenge and fun. Whether you enter the dungeon with 3 friends or go it alone, chances are you will enjoy Legend of Dungeon.
