I’d be lying if I said I knew about Steel Empire or Empire of Steel prior to the 3DS remake. However if what I’ve read is accurate, Sega Genesis owners coveted this shoot ’em up that Megadrive owners enjoyed outside of the US. Steel Empire is a shoot ’em up that takes place over 7 lengthy levels with 4 difficulty options. You can choose from 2 different ships and acquire power-ups to take on the numerous enemies and bosses. The directions you shoot in are binary much like the level scrolling. In addition to the campaign there are training and replay modes. These definetly come in hand if you wish to play the levels proficiently. Steel Empire is a fun shoot ’em up but I can’t really recommend that people who weren’t salivating over it in the 90s spend $30 on it now.
Recommendation: Worth a buy on sale – fantastic experience but price tag is a bit steep
