Sparkle 2 is 10tons’ follow-up to their original rotating, action puzzle, match 3 game. Both versions can be found on a wide variety platforms. I had the pleasure of playing Sparkle 2 on the PS4 and Vita. There is a storyline involving enchanted keys and mystery but regardless of your interest in these type of games – the storyline, while a nice addition, won’t make or break it.
Like many games of its type, you need to clear the levels of marbles by shooting similar colors and matching at least 3 to make them disappear. Should the marbles advance too close to you, the game will be over. Branching paths and numerous power-ups are available to you as well. Sparkle 2 with its narrative element, cut scenes and world map goes a step further than most action puzzle games. But when you strip away the extras the gameplay is fun but also very familiar.
Recommendation*: Worth a buy – if you can take advantage of cross-buy
