Have Game, Will Play: Mousecraft

Apparently Schrodinger’s cat has survived and is busy conducting experiments of his own. He uses mice to retrieve pieces of cheese and crystal shards. You could spend time questioning why the shards were placed within the container along with the cheese and the mice, but it really doesn’t matter.

Mousecraft is a puzzle game where mice are released into an environment where they will move left and right until they have found cheese, are trapped or have met their demise. The mice will encounter various traps and hazards like robotic rats, high falls and water. Each level typically has several tetris-style shapes that can be placed to bridge gaps or allow access to hard to reach places.  Mousecraft doesn’t stop there; every handful of levels treats the player to another trap or item. Even puzzle games can have good pacing.

The tetris-style pieces come in a wide variety: jelly for long falls, crumbling for added challenge and detonating for doing a little level remodeling. Many of these bricks are used in tandem so levels force you really think about how you can successfully guide the mice. This is all in addition to levels with bombs that aid in brick removal. Just when you get too comfortable with a certain mechanic the game throws something else your way. Mousecraft may look silly but it provides a multitude of extremely challenging levels that will leave you scratching your head and pounding your fist.
